CANDLE CARE

STEP 1 - BEFORE BURN

Always place a candle on an even, protective surface. Avoid drafts, vents or air currents. Do not burn near anything that can catch fire.

STEP 2 - TRIM THE WICK

Before lighting the candle on each occasion, trim the wick to 5mm. This ensures a safe, clean, smoke-free burn. It also helps you get longer out of your candle.

STEP 3 - BURN

Allow the wax to melt fully across the entire surface of the candle, before extinguishing. This may take 3-4 hours. There may be some wax left on the outter wall of the glass, this is normal. Never let the candle burn for more than 4 hours. Never leave a candle unattended.

STEP 4 - REUSE

When 2cm of wax is left in your candle, it’s time to stop burning. Remove the remaining wax by putting the candle glass in the freezer, then the wax should pop out with ease. You can then upcycle the glass. Check out our social media pages for inspiration.

WE CONSIDER OUR WAX TO HAVE A CERTAIN ‘CHARACTER’

Our wax is a soft luxurious wax. We tend to it carefully in our workshop, to ensure it makes the perfect Fox and Wolf candle. When we say it’s a perfect wax with ‘character’ that means it sometimes has fine surface cracks, when it cools and sets.  At Fox and Wolf we don't see these as imperfections, we see them as a personality of the wax. The Fox & Wolf wax burns slowly and cleanly. It contains no additives, and it lasts for a lot longer than many other candle waxes on the market today. You know when you have a Fox & Wolf candle burning, because it fill's the air with beautiful aromas, creating a wonderfully relaxed space, for you to enjoy.

    VEGAN FRIENDLY?

All of our products are as vegan friendly as possible. And the reason we are wording it like this is because sometimes manufacturers are not particularly forth coming with open information about some of their processes. A prime example is the paint used on candle glass. But, be rest assured, that here at Fox & Wolf we make sure our wax, bases, perfume oils, wicks, labels and external packaging are all vegan friendly.. meaning there is no animal derived ingredients used in them. We have even insisted that our ingredients have had no animal testing during it’s testing or production.

WHAT DO WORDS LIKE ‘COLD THROW’ AND ‘HOT THROW’ MEAN?

This is referring to the amount of fragrance you can smell from a candle before it’s been lit and during. All Fox & Wolf candles have been very carefully balanced with our secret blends of fragrance oils.  We tend to use around 10% in our candles and up to 20% in our reed diffusers, which is the maximum you can use in these products. So our products tend to be packed full of aroma.

    WHAT IS CANDLE SOOT?

When the wicks burn, the candle wax heats up the fragrance oil and this can cause sooting. This is black carbon deposit(s), and this is released into the air. It’s one of the reasons that we use our own secret recipe of blended wax, as it burns very cleanly and has a very low soot output.

SHOULD I KEEP THE LID ON MY CANDLE WHEN IT’S NOT IN USE?

We would say yes! It will help keep the fragrance strong and fresh, for the next time you use it. But don’t put the lid on it until it has completely reset, to its solid state.

HOW CAN I GET MY CANDLE TO BURN DOWN EVENLY?

Believe it or not wax has a memory. So, when you first light and burn your candle, the wax learns on each and every burn, how it should behave. We have worked incredibly hard on our wax and wick combinations to ensure that our candles burn evenly. But a candle needs your help as well. When you first light your candle, it’s really important that you allow the melted wax to reach the edges, creating what’s known as a ‘full melt pool’.  This really helps to avoid something called ‘tunnelling’. This is a term used to describe when a candle has not been lit for long enough, which creates a deep ring around the wick, that does not reach the edge. So to help our wonderful candles do what they need to, keep it burning each and every time until the melt pool reaches all the edges of the container.

WHY DO YOUR CANDLES SMELL STRONGER THAN MANY OTHER CANDLE BRANDS?

For several reasons.  Here at FOX & WOLF HQ we use high-grade, quality, fragrance oils.  We also use a larger percentage of fragrance oil in our blends than many candle manufacturers. And also, our special blend of wax helps with this too!

HOW LONG CAN I BURN MY CANDLE FOR?

It is recommend that a candle, regardless of its size, should not be lit for any longer that 4 hours at a time. And, when we test and burn candles here at FOX & WOLF, we usually light them for a maximum of 3-4 hours after the first burn. As previously mentioned, your first burn needs to be long enough for the melt pool to reach the edges of the container fully. This should take about 3-4 hours, and no more.

DO YOU USE DIFFERENT WICKS FOR DIFFERENT CANDLES?

The answer is yes, absolutely! The wick is probably the single most important component in candle making. We rigorously test our wicks with each candle and fragrance combination because they all burn differently, depending on the minerals in each oil.

HOW LONG SHOULD MY CANDLE LAST?

Because we use premium products in our vegetable wax, it burns slowly and cleanly.  But how long your candle lasts really depends on you. If you leave your candle burning for long periods of time, the wax will become hotter, meaning it will burn the oil quicker. So, that’s why we recommend an average burn time of 2 to 3 hours, or until the candle has reached full melt pool.

    ARE YOUR CANDLE WICKS LEAD-FREE?

Yes, our wicks are only made of a cotton and linen mix.

WHEN SHOULD I STOP BURNING MY CANDLE?

As soon as the wax reaches the last 2cm at the bottom of the container it really is time to say goodbye. The reason is this.. as the wax reaches a very low point in the container it can superheat.. which means there is a lot of heat in the bottom of the container. So, for safety reasons, it’s always best to blow your candle out when the wax becomes low.
